Challenge

Impaired driving is recognized as an incredibly dangerous behavior, yet alcohol and drug-related fatal crashes continue to increase, particularly among the males.

Education

  • Actively campaign and partner with other groups and agencies to reduce DUIs, with a focus on those 21 – 39 years old.
  • Increase awareness of the Utah BAC limit.
  • Identify and promote programs and approaches that increase the use of transit, rideshare, and safe options when drinking.
  • Enhance DUI court participation with training and resources.
  • Support and promote the 24/7 Sobriety Program.
  • Increase education and outreach for the growing segments of the population.

Enforcement

  • Conduct high visibility multi-agency enforcement in conjunction with media campaigns.
  • Support DUI legislation.
  • Encourage toxicology testing on all vehicle operators in fatal crashes.
  • Train law enforcement officers statewide in DRE, ARIDE, and Phlebotomy Programs.
  • Support and promote the statewide Sip/Trace Program.
  • Support partnership with the Toxicology lab to help improve the efficiency of DUI toxicology results.
  • Support data driven enforcement efforts including: saturation patrols, checkpoints, etc.
  • Increase the number of agencies involved in the Eliminating Alcohol Sales to Youth program.
